MS camp updates - Thursday
It's been a great day.
Started off this morning with another AM session on our "Happy" series. We looked again at the words of Jesus in the Beatitudes, specifically on the impact our relationship with God needs to have in how we relate to the people He placed in our lives. Our students were challenged to REMEMBER what Jesus did for them and to be willing to offer the same treatment to the relationships in their lives. The happy life is a life that's right with God and right with people. (Matt 5:9, 23-24; 22:37-39; 18:21-22)
At 10:30 AM we took off to ropes, had a blast. Then, off to water rec.
Our Breakouts continued in the afternoon.
Great evening service with James Patrick Morgan and the band. Chad brought the Word again and spoke about the power of influence that we all have. A God we love, should be a God we talk about. Chad spoke about boldness in sharing our story. Christ's love compels us to SPEAK - 2 Cor 5:14. By the end of tonight we had ONE MORE that came to Jesus. One more!!! How awesome is that!!!
We're now in Family Groups till 10 PM. At 10, we'll be heading to our late night event - the awesome bonfire with smores and lemonade. Everyone will start packing tonight and get ready for departure which is estimated by 11:30 tomorrow. If all goes as planned, we should be able to be back at church by 4 PM. Please pray for our safe return. Pray for lasting life change in the hearts of our amazing students.
One more session in the morning as we wrap up Camp Advance. I'll be speaking about Going against the Flow (Matt 5:10-12) Students will be challenged to stand up and stand out for what is right even when they are standing alone.
Good night :)

MS camp updates, June 22 2011 - God on the move
Today has been one amazing day.
Our students started off with an awesome breakfast here at Ridgecrest. Then they dove into some quiet time before our worship time.
For our AM session, we are doing part of a series called "HAPPY" - that will continue once we get back. Happiness according to God. We’re looking at Matthew 5 and studying the Words of Jesus on what it takes to live the truly blessed life.
Today, step one, Matthew 5:3 - I need to understand that I am not God and that God is God. And trusting Him with every decision of my life is the best decision I can make. Students were challenged to fully rely on God and His unchanging character and His unfailing Word.
Some great time of Breakouts followed with 4 of our amazing leaders here at MS camp (Stacey Warbington - a session for girls only; Steve Browning - a session for guys only; Rob Brooks - Rhythm, staying in sync with God and Flip Johnson - God’s Gym, a session on spiritual disciplines)
Lunch followed and our entire group headed out ropes course, part A. Today we got trained on how to work together as a team, and tomorrow hopefully, part B - the actual Ropes, weather permitting. Please pray for good weather for us tomorrow.
Our PM service was totally engulfed with God’s presence as James Patrick Morgan and our very own Melissa Jean lead our students into worship. Chad Cannon followed with a message from the Old Testament (Joshua 4) on our calling to be LIVING STONES, living memorials to what God has done. Our students were challenged in the arenas of their walk, their talk and submitting to authority.
By the end of the service we had students who took one step closer in their commitment to Jesus and ONE student received Jesus as Lord and Savior tonight! God is hard at work in our teens, and He is drawing them closer to Him as each day of camp goes by.
Students are now in Family Group time to discuss what they learned tonight.
Our late night event tonight will be starting at 10 PM and it is HEBRON’S GOT TALENT! :) Our judges are ready and our group is stoked. Shall be interesting to see what our teens will show off tonight. Can’t wait.
It’s been a good day.
Please keep our group in your prayers as we look towards another FULL day of camp tomorrow.
Blessings,
Flav and the HSM staff team

Notes from Chad's message tonight - "Set Apart"
Isaiah 6
What is your view of God?
"God is not like us, but He wants us to be like Him."
Q: What needs to be cut out of your life?
Q: Are you in the kingdom?
Q: And are you waking for the king?
Our students are in family time right now to discuss what they heard and how it all applies to their lives.
At 9:45 PM our entire group will be heading out to the Rec field for our late night event, "Capture the Flag."
Good times are here. Camp is full ON.
More tomorrow.

God is moving!
The 3rd day of camp is always the hardest, as students are exhausted and worn out from a full, past two days of camp. Despite their unashamed exhaustion, the students charged at the day with an energy they pulled from nowhere. Beginning with a morning celebration service that challenged our students to grow their daily walk with Christ, students were keyed in and focused.
They left from their to their second day of Breakouts in which they had the option to choose from break-outs ranging from tips to sharing their faith with friends led by Glen Rowden, a special "girls only" break-out that was top secret for our ladies led by Lydia Holland, a break-out that outlined a strategy for students to have a daily quiet time with Christ led by Flip Johnson and a special break-out led by Flaviu Pop talking through some of the "big questions" that students are asking today.
Students left from the break-outs to have a quick lunch and then to change for the afternoon group recreation activities. Today was water day and the sunshine that finally joined us on the rec field was refreshing, to say the least. Robbie Crawford, our HSM Intern did a tremendous job of leading our rec teams in a fun day full of water balloon volleyball, a water balloon slingshot competition, slip-n-slide kickball, a water relay, and of course a giant, slip-n-slide bowling match. Students had a blast cooling off in the water games while we were out in the hot sun!
This evening the mood was toned down a bit as we entered into our final evening worship service. The James Patrick Morgan band led our students right up to the throne preparing their hearts for worship and Chad, our speaker, challenged our students to pin-point the name of one of their friends that they needed to share Christ with upon their return back to Georgia. Students then left to their final Family Group time and God moved. During family groups we had 6 students accept Christ as Lord and Savior for the very first time, as well as several other decisions to commit their lives to follow Christ in a stronger way -- Praise the Lord!!
The night was finished off with our Hebron's Got Talent tournament! We were blown away by the wealth of talent that performed! We had singers, rappers, comedians, musicians, fork breaking, and even "extreme bandana flicking tricks".
God is moving here. We have one more service tomorrow morning, so please keep praying that our students would keep their hearts tender to what He wants to teach them in the morning. After our final service in the morning, we'll be loading the busses and headed home with an anticipated arrival of 4:30 or 5ish which makes this our final post for the week. Thanks for your prayers and support during the week while we've been away! We'll see you tomorrow!

High School Camp - Day Two!
Campers were up bright and early this AM for their 7:15 breakfast in the Cafeteria. With sleepy eyes they rolled in line one after another and drank the coffee machines dry. The caffeine must have done the trick because by the time morning worship rolled around at 9:00 they were awake, alert, alive, and enthusiastic.
Our morning sessions include a camp favorite, Roll Call! Students from each team meet up to plan out the biggest and best cheer possible. They did not disappoint this AM as the cheered their way a little closer to be recognized as this week's Rec Team Champion. James Patrick Morgan joined us as worship leader this AM. As a very gifted musician, "Jim" is all about connecting students to God in praise. He taught us all a few new songs today, including "Moving Forward" which works well with our camp theme - ADVANCE.
During the teaching time in the morning sessions we are looking at several chapters in the book of Acts. This is appropriate because Acts is all about how God's name and renown Advanced across the known world. We dug into Acts 2 and students were given some practical steps from God's word on how to further their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Breakouts also begun today. From Hot Topics to Sharing Your Faith to Girl's Only there was somethings for everyone. Each student had the opportunity to hear form some of our camp leaders and church staff on a topic they are interested in. Just one more way that students can be equipped to live out their faith upon returning home.
After lunch, we walked along the sunny roadway up to the Lower Ropes course for today's Rec. The dark clouds moved in and before we knew it, everyone was soaked to the bone as we ventured through the various team building activities. Our students stayed incredibly positive and upbeat through it all. They learned to rely upon their fellow teammates and the importance of working together.
Free time and dinner came and went in a blink and it was time for evening worship. Chad Cannon spoke form Joshua 4 and 1 Peter 2 about being a "living stone". The point was living out your faith in such a way that you are a monument to God's power in a person's life. Several students responded during the invitation to rededicate themselves to Jesus Christ and His lifestyle.
Late Night wrapped up a little more than an hour ago. We spent the time at the fire pit, making smores and talking about what God is doing in our lives through this experience. A little more low-key and relaxed after last night's intense competition.
Stay tuned for more updates. Please pray for the continued safety of the campers. Pray that attitudes would stay positive, just like they have been in the first two days. Pray that students would continue to open to God's moving in their lives this week as we worship and study God's Word together.

We Are Already Having A Blast!
Day One...
We pulled into a torrential downpour this afternoon at Ridgecrest Conference Center in North Carolina, but nothing could dampen our students excitement! They quickly dispersed and unpacked in their hotel style home away from home at the Mountain Laurel Lodge. Within the hour we were all back together again for our first Rec Team meeting. Sporting their provided bright bandanas it was clear that these students plan on competing fiercely this week. After a few brief words they separated across the campus to plan their cheers and plot Student Camp Rec domination.
The feedback from dinner tonight included the words "Delicious" and "MMM" from our campers. Seems like they won't go hungry in the days ahead.
Now let's get down to the good stuff... our first worship session. Robbie Crawford, student intern, dawned a bright blue suit and played the part of cheesy game show host as we got things rolling with some fun. Worship tonight was electric. Terry (who leads on many Wednesday nights in the Studio) opened up our first session by leading the band. He was awesome! Tomorrow James Patrick Morgan will join us for all the rest of our camp sessions. Chad Cannon brought the word from Isaiah 6 challenging students to get to know the king in whose kingdom we are living as Christians. No responses to Gospel yet. Keep praying! I know that God is working in these students lives and there is a lot that He still plans to do in the days ahead.
After worship, students broke into their family groups to unpack the application of the message in their personal lives. This is crucial, because this isn't just about the retreat and a spiritual high. It is about real life change. Students have to see the connection between what is being taught and real life back home. Family groups help us get that accomplished.
We wrapped up the night with Night Rec playing Capture the Flag. For the record, the students wearing yellow glow-stick-necklaces won.
Day one has come to a close. Again, keep praying! We are trusting God for some big things in the coming days!
